What is an Activity Club?
Activity clubs offer specific activities, such as sport, art or drama, during school holidays and/or after school.

General Information
- These offer hours before and/or after school and many run during school holidays.
- The number of children they accommodate varies depending on the type of club on offer, usually between 20 and 120 children.
- Staff to child ratio is 1:8 for under 5 years and 1:10 for over 5 year olds.
- Some may require a small deposit.
- These can offer specialist coaching to cover a variety of children’s interests.
Statutory Requirements
- A minimum of 75% of the staff have a childcare and education qualification.
- All staff are required to have: a satisfactory ‘fit person’ check (includes DBS and Health check), First Aid qualification, Safeguarding and Infection control.
- All activity clubs are registered annually by Childcare Registration in the Education Department. Top tip: check when they last re-registered and if it was more than 12 months ago ask why.
