What is a Playcare Centre?
Playcare centres provide care for school age children before and after school hours and during school holidays.

General Information
- The number of children that can be accommodated varies, ranging from 17-200.
- The staff to child ratio is 1:8 for under 5 years and 1:10 for over 5 years old.
- Some playcare centres may require a small deposit.

- Check they offer a range of regular activities.
Statutory Requirements
- All staff are required to have: a satisfactory ‘fit person’ check (includes DBS and Health check), First Aid qualification, Safeguarding and Infection control.
- A minimum of 75% of the staff have a playwork and or childcare qualification.
- All playcare centres are registered annually by Childcare Registration in the Education Department. Top tip: check when they last re-registered and if it was more than 12 months ago ask why.
