Treasurer Position at Jersey Child Care Trust

The Jersey Child Care Trust (the Trust) is looking for Treasurer to join its Board.

About the Trust

The Jersey Child Care Trust (the Trust) is a local charity making a big difference for children living with disabilities and/or adversity.  By putting families first, we deliver a variety of programmes to enable all our children to have the best start.  Now, more than ever, families have to balance the demands of work with bringing up children, the current and foreseeable economic outlook only serves to increase pressure on family life.  Childcare is therefore not a luxury.  In today’s environment, it is very much a necessity and we aim to help all children have fair access.

The work of the Trust is overseen and guided by a board of Trustees, led by the Chairman, Marnie Baudains.  Each Trustee brings a different set of skills and experience to their role and the Trust is currently looking for a Treasurer to inform the work of the Trust.

About the role:

  • Annual Audit undertaken by Bracken Rothwell – the annual report and accounts and the information necessary for the audit are prepared by the Business Manager with Treasurer input and oversight.
  • The Treasurer has responsibility for budget approval each year before the budget is presented to the Trust Board for final approval.
  • The Treasurer receives the monthly financial statements that are distributed to all Trustees and staff for budget monitoring purposes.
  • Treasurer has access to the on-line banking system with administration rights.
  • Our Business Manager pay all bills via on line banking – once payments have been approved by two out of a possible four signatories (one being the Treasurer) – we are looking to transfer this to  a system where trustee signatory approval is electronic and we are hoping the new Treasurer can advise and support us in making this happen.
  • The Treasurer should be proactive in identifying processes and systems that will ensure the financial activities of the Trust run smoothly and efficiently. . This may include the development of new reporting methods and the provision of regular reports and analysis. The Treasurerwill also take the lead in advising the Board on financial developments and changes which may require action.

The Trust Board meet six times a year, over a sandwich lunch, at our new  offices (Pip’s Place, Union St, St Helier).  A full induction will be provided to include visits to childcare settings to see our work in action and the difference that we make for children and families.

It is an initial three year term of office and is an honorary position that requires an clear enhanced DBS Check (Police Check) and willing to complete a basic safeguarding training.  We would encourage anyone with the relevant skills and experience, together with a keen interest in contributing towards making a difference for families in Jersey, to contact Fiona Vacher, Executive Director of the Trust, to outline your relevant skills and interest and to find out more about this opportunity.
