Paying for Childcare

Childcare Tax Relief

Tax relief is granted for payments made to all registered childcare, States-provided nursery classes and accredited nannies. The amount you can claim depends on your income (and your partner’s income if you are married) and the age/s of your child/children. If you have preschool children, you can claim enhanced childcare tax relief for each year of tax assessment. This is available up to and including the year in which your child is entitled to free early years education through the Nursery Education Fund (NEF). Payments made by Income Support for childcare cannot be claimed as a deduction for tax. For more information visit the Childcare Tax Relief page on the Gov.je website.

Childcare Component of Income Support

Income Support is an income-related benefit for Jersey residents (those who have lived on the Island for five years or more), that provides financial support. You can claim if you are on a low household income, pass the Income Support residence test and are working, looking for work or exempt from looking for work. If you are in receipt of Income Support or are eligible, you may qualify for the Childcare Component and receive help towards the cost of childcare, providing it is a States Nursery Class, Registered Childcare or an Accredited Nanny. For more information visit the Income Support page on the Gov.je website.
