Small Grants Scheme

About the Small Grants Scheme

Jersey Child Care Trust Small Grants SchemeThe aim of the scheme is to improve the quality, accessibility and affordability of childcare and the development of childcare services from birth to 12 years. Applications are welcome from all registered (and those applying to become registered) childcare providers.

In 2016 the Trust awarded £16,000 in Small Grants to the local registered childcare sector.  This ranged from £200 to help purchase a walk up changing table to £3,000 towards resources for a new after school club.  In all, eight settings benefitted from accessing funds from the Trust’s Small Grants Scheme.

Our Executive Trust Board will consider grants at their meetings, approximately every two months with applicants receiving the decision in writing shortly after the relevant meeting.

What the Trustees are Looking For

  • Realistic costs and time scale, you need to show you have done your research. Over the last three years we have received over 60 applications, ranging from £100 for some musical instruments to £3,000 for play equipment.  (Last year, 75% of the grants awarded were for under £1,500).
  • A timely application.  Before any work is started or resources purchased, please call us to talk through your project.  The more information the Trustees have, the easier the decision making process is.
  • Evidence of a contribution either financially or otherwise by you to your project.
  • Evidence of value for money, usually three quotes from different suppliers. (Unless the item/s are specifically detailed by the Childcare and Early Years Service).  This requirement is in line with the grant application procedure for the Association of Jersey Charities and the States of Jersey.
  • Please include a copy of your accounts and/or other financial information.  The Trustees need applicants to demonstrate their organisation’s financial need on the application and if you have a reserve to explain that reserve and what it is to be used for.  This requirement is in line with grant procedures for the Association of Jersey Charities and the States of Jersey.
  • The Trustees cannot award Small Grants for goods or materials purchased by credit agreements.
  • We will not provide support for individual welfare needs or where assistance can easily be obtained elsewhere.
  • We will usually need to visit your setting before a decision can be made and we will do a follow-up visit after the project has been completed.
  • As a registered setting, the Trustees expect that you will have discussed your requirements with Childcare Registration and/or the Early Years Advisory Teacher.
